31  General Category / General Discussion / Re: What Java 7 Book should I get? on: February 18, 2013, 05:13:32 PM
Well, if your planning on building games, the book Developing Games in Java by David Brackeen is good, though somewhat outdated. The methods still work though! http://www.brackeen.com/javagamebook/

Wow, you were right when you said worst post yet. I don't think that that story is quite accurate, but the faces are Wink

The game is currently in development so no monsters or npcs... Yet. Just give it some time. Not too much longer till the next planned update thing. February 14 i think?

But anyway, while your waiting why not take part in the community. You going to be able to learn alot more and also make some friends along the way. Smiley
That is exactly right. If you looked on youtube you would see that Paul has been playing around with AI and it will be in this next release.

No, no AI in this next release.  It's not ready.  I switched to physics.  That's what I'm trying to get ready... and an overhaul of the UI to include ripping out the kludgy build-mode.
Geez Paul, decide what your going to work on! Wink

http://jmonkeyengine.org/forum/topic/lemur-work-in-progress-posted/ There you are sir. And I'm sure it won't be too hard Paul. I'd rather use that than just JFrame

Or Nifty... <shudder>
I am glad that my days of using nifty are now over. It was horrible, and laggy. I never wanted to use it but I didn't want to use swing either.

Looks like people were having the same problem with Minecraft: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/36603-nonexistent-java-runtime-environment/

Wow, what an interesting dialog. It looks like you may have java installed in somewhere other than your program files? That is my first thought after looking at this but I can't be completely sure.

Oh my gosh! You posted lemur Paul! I can't wait to test it out, and implement it in my game! I have been waiting for a while. Thank you for posting it!

I got a rough draft of a website set up so if people want to find out more about the game they can. The address is http://ruinsofryth.tk. Don't be expecting anything great though because it isn't finished. As I said I am hoping to have a pre-alpha by the end of February, so...

I occasionally play Minecraft or Tekkit but usually I am working on the 3d rpg that I am programming.
Is it Mythruna? xD haha. What is it like? Smiley
No, it isn't Mythruna. The game that I am making, Ruins of Ryth, is not like Mythruna or Minecraft. It is a futuristic rpg in which aliens attack your home city, Ryth, and then you have to play through 4 worlds and then defeat the final boss, the king of the aliens. I haven't released anything yet but I am hoping that by February I will have the first pre-alpha. I have been working on it since May of last year.

Woow. It sounded like a Cool game Smiley i will try it out Smiley
Thanks for what you said. That always makes me feel good. I'll let you know when the first build is done. And when I have a website...
if you cannot get a website, try webs.com (free subdomain) and/or use mediafire
Actually, I am going to buy a website domain.
Use code "Linux295" to buy a .com domain for $2.95 or for a domain that isn't a .com use the code "go20off6" to save a good 20% off of your domain purchase.
Thanks. And no, there isn't a download yet but probably soon. I'm working on a website draft and i'll put stuff there until I get a real website. The site should be done in a few days.
