Title: Daily Discussion Question #28 (9/20/14) Post by: Rayblon on September 20, 2014, 12:16:56 AM Are there any languages other than English that you are fluent in? What language do you wish you were fluent in, but are not?
EDIT: Is there a phrase in another language you really like? Title: Re: Daily Discussion Question #28 (9/20/14) Post by: Rayblon on September 20, 2014, 12:18:03 AM I'm only good with English... But I definitely wish I kept up with my studies of Latin.
Title: Re: Daily Discussion Question #28 (9/20/14) Post by: Michael on September 20, 2014, 06:36:02 PM I'm pretty fluent in Java, but that's a computer language, which is just a set of instructions..
I wish I was more fluent in Spanish, because there are kids in my class that will speak Spanish to each other so no one can understand them, but currently I enjoy saying, "No hablo Espanol," and "Que?" Title: Re: Daily Discussion Question #28 (9/20/14) Post by: pspeed on September 21, 2014, 12:12:42 AM I'm not fluent in anything but english. I do know some french but it's _extremely_ rusty.
So far my go-to favorite is a french phrase: "enculeur de mouches" Let's just say it means "nitpicking" but the literal translation is hilarious and not appropriate for general audiences. :) Google translate almost gets it right. Edit: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/enculeur_de_mouches I will not be held responsible if you are easily offended and click on that link. Text not safe for young eyes, and so on. PS : Paul, don't come in france if you know only that phrase ^^ Title: Re: Daily Discussion Question #28 (9/20/14) Post by: pspeed on September 21, 2014, 05:59:56 PM I'm really fluent in french... maybe because I'm french ! ;D PS : Paul, don't come in france if you know only that phrase ^^ As a developer, I meet many such people that deserve such a name. :) |
