Title: What Java 7 Book should I get?
Post by: Michael on February 17, 2013, 11:15:52 PM
Ok so for my birthday, my sister doesn't know what to get me for my birthday. So I told her that I want some Java Books, she does not know anything about computer programming, so she is going to let me go to a store and pick it out. I would like to know what book(s) you recommend for beginner-intermediate (as I already know some of the basics). If you aren't sure, here is the search that I used on walmart:

Walmart Search: Java 7 (http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_query=Java+7&ic=16_0&Find=Find&search_constraint=3920)

I was deciding on these two books...

Java 7 for Absolute Beginners (http://www.walmart.com/ip/16478424)
Pro Java 7 Nio.2 (http://www.walmart.com/ip/17287641)

Thank you for your help!

My brother has a big Java book. Don't remember what the exact name was but it was a big thick book.

Lots of books on Amazon will let you "Look inside" to see if the book makes sense.  I recommend double checking books there to see if they are worth your time, regardless of where you buy them.

Well, if your planning on building games, the book Developing Games in Java by David Brackeen is good, though somewhat outdated. The methods still work though! http://www.brackeen.com/javagamebook/ (http://www.brackeen.com/javagamebook/)
