It makes me smile to see so many Linux desktops.  There is hope for the world.
Umm.. what does that mean?
He obviously means that linux is pretty damn awesome... if you get the right distro, that is.

And because it's slowly breaking this circular logic:

Person A: Man, I hate windows.
Person B: then why do you run it?
Person A: Because all of my apps/games run there.
Person B: Why do you think your apps aren't on other OSes?
Person A: Because everyone uses windows.

Competition is good.  It also has the side benefit of promoting cross platform solutions like Java since it makes it easier to deploy to multiple platforms.

Which... in itself provides the side benefit that if a new OS maker wants to get into the game, they merely need to make sure they support the most prevalent cross-platform solutions.

Result: thriving ecosystem of cool software instead of a mired swamp of "Buy our new OS because this one really has fewer bugs and now with hi-res icons."

4. Does not slow down!
5. Fast!
6. Cool Design, but not too complicated!

11. Cures cancer.

Well 1, 2, and 3 are literally impossible for no matter what OS you are using. Although, Linux is much more secure than Windows and OS X. Partly because it's open sourced but being open means it can be easier for people to exploit the software.
If you run Linux, it will not slow down. Period. Only the necessary daemons are loaded during the startup and the ext filesystem rarely fragments. Whether or not you have the speediest OS depends on what desktop environment you choose. If you want something fast, look into XFCE or LXDE. If you want something that looks nicer but uses a few more resources, look at KDE or Gnome.
