1  General Category / General Discussion / Ever consider using Unity? on: September 07, 2016, 01:56:43 PM
Hi pspeed ever consider using unity instead of jmonkey engine ?

From what ive seen unity is much more easier to use and comes with alot of awesome features that help in development times.
It's just a thought , and from what i see networking is difficult in this engine , its no picnic in unity but its fairly easy if you got experience .

Any thoughts.

I'd be wary of that game its made by the same guys who made starforge and that game didn't turn out tonwell .I'd wait and see how it turns out before making a purchase.

Ah I see serializers are something I haven't dived into yet I must do,running into memory problems ATM.atm I'm creating a bunch of trees then moving them around the world as I need them to save on memory.so yea I'll look into that thanks very much for the tip.I never actually knew you build your trees from scratch that's pretty cool.must of been interesting getting that working but probably worked out cheaper in the long run.I must read your blog on jmonkey probably got some interesting stuff there I could learn.

Hi paul ,I'm wondering if I could pick your brain for a moment ,I'm busy working on a game purely as a hobby to see what I can do,so I got this little voxel engine open source for unity and I made some scripts for adding grass and trees and other stuff, problem is im stumped trying to think of a way to save the trees location and what type of tree it is,I'm guessing this is how you do it,I'm also guessing you also use a kind of object pooling to spawn trees and stuff,so after that long winded story I'm wondering if you could share some tips on how you do that, basically I'm asking how exactly you handle trees and grass thanks for any tips you probably have a blog somewhere with that info in it that'd be great to.

sorry for double post ,on the phone edit not working.but yeah I know theres a lot you've done to the game that me as a non detonator haven't seen.I read your blog regularly about all the stuff added to the game it's truly amazing, compared to minecraft, your games already better I mean you have atlast added shaders to the game, normal maps ,directional lighting ,clouds, waving water and grass and the performance is good considering it's java,so yeah, if I get a chance I'll spread the word about this game as much as possible, consider a kickstarter even though it sounds hectic, I think it'll help there's no pressure though I think I speak for the forums in saying you doing a great job!

I hear you loud and clear but I mean I've seen kickstarters for potato salad before seriously.all the guy needed was money for potato salad and he raised a couple thousand on that alone.I mean a little kickstarter would help no need for a full on kickstarter just a little one to help with what you need to, even if it takes time, this all coming from someone who knows little about gaming and programming so take it with lots of salt.I do understand life's hard atm.I just think you need more exposure, I saw that iso surface demo I was amazing the landscape looked truly epic and you just made it for fun truly amazing .anyway just my opinion.I think your work is great.keep it up.and goodluck going ahead

hi pspeed I know a game "starforge"those developers were lumberjacks If I recall, they launched a very early alpha for a kickstarter and managed to raise enough funds to quit their job, maybe you should do the same all I'd recommend is maybe a creature or 2 and some weapons or weapon, then launch it for a kickstarter, I see your game going far, I understand funds are an issue, if you do a kickstarter you'd free up time for mythruna, just a suggestion.I know it's been suggested before but I think you should consider again,.
9  General Category / General Discussion / question about updates to mythruna on: September 11, 2013, 03:00:49 PM
so basically I just wanna know is there a new update out for donators only? cause I keep seeing pictures with all this cool stuff in it, farms, books and third person view (which looks awesome!)also read 1 user talking about test build 2013xxxx .anyway thanks in advance.
10  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Updating from Vista to 7 advice. on: September 07, 2013, 02:02:43 AM
speaking from experience, formatting the hard drive and reinstalling all drivers and games etc, is the easiest way .you might need to download new drivers but its much easier then upgrading ,due to drivers and softwAre compatibility issues, plus you dont have the annoying windows old file taking up unnecessary space .just back up all your drivers and files before hand, and you'll be fine(sorry if I used bad grammar not my strong suit)
