Title: Will you ever move away from the jME libraries? Post by: Michael on October 11, 2013, 01:12:00 PM Just out of curiosity, Paul, will you ever decide to make Mythruna run on its own independent jar file, or have you already? :o

Post by: Michael on October 11, 2013, 05:01:13 PM For the record, I also don't plan to write my own OS or compiler. ;) And just for the record, I find writing from scratch to be a huge learning experience (and can be a huge waste of time); I may someday try out using libraries, but I think the only reason I would love to use a library is when it is a library I made myself. And, as you stated about the OS thingy, depending on how good I get with programming, I might attempt an OS when I'm 25, but lets see who beats me at it I hate Windows 8. Post by: pspeed on October 11, 2013, 05:30:17 PM The thing is, if you want to make a game that other people can play then trying to learn OpenGL, all the various compatibility issues, etc. is nearly impossible within any time frame where it matters. And most of it you pick up over time by using a library that others have already poured their experience into.
I know a lot about OpenGL and I'm still frequently reminding of gaping gaps in my low-level knowledge... almost on a weekly basis... just in chatting with the guys who eat/breathe/live this stuff daily. |
