Title: Opening Mythruna gives a Java error
Post by: Karric on January 14, 2013, 02:16:22 PM
Heya.

I have tried to find a similar problem and didn't see anything.
I am currently having the issue that I can't open the program.

I have recently re-installed Java hoping that would cause the problem to disappear, but that had no effect.

I am running Win8 and although I have seen that ATI cards have problems I am running a nvidia card. But I believe it isn't even getting that far as it isn't generating an error log.
Here is a pic of the error I am recieving.

Hopefully I can get a hand with this as I am quite interested in the game.

Wow, what an interesting dialog. It looks like you may have java installed in somewhere other than your program files? That is my first thought after looking at this but I can't be completely sure.

I can see where you would think that....but there is another game I play that requires java (have java 7 if it matters) and it runs just fine....so I'm not sure what's going on.

Looks like people were having the same problem with Minecraft: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/36603-nonexistent-java-runtime-environment/ (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/36603-nonexistent-java-runtime-environment/)

Is your version up-to-date? if so, do you have more versions of java installed? e.g. Java 6 and Java 7? if so uninstall all but the latest version.

My best guess.

That minecraft post was quite helpful.

It would seem that I have an artifact in there somewhere.

I am closer to the answer, but I will poke at it more in the morning.

Thanks for the fast replies, it is appreciated.

Yeah, seems something is odd with your Java installation.  Something about this seems vaguely familiar.

If you get it sorted then definitely post back here with the results.

Or try uninstalling all java and reinstalling latest version.

I remember I jacked up java when I was trying to install env. variables. good times :)

Alrightie

So after several failed attempts....I finally resorted to JavaRa 2.0.

It would seem that there were fragments of a previous update lodged in my registry that seemed to take priority over the recently installed when Mythruna went looking for it.

I tried quite a few other things as well before this worked.

I should also note that the main problem here is that the uninstaller for this java update (ver 6 64bit) is still listed in my programs and features unistall list...but it is no longer screwing with my pointer.

It was the pointing to the minecraft page that really put me on the trail of this. Thanks. I hope this helps others.

Oh, final thing, if someone could change the title to reflect my problem that would be great (say program not opening due to java failure) as I would hope it helps a few others who end up with this problem. I can't seem to edit the title.

Thanks again
Karric

To change the title, go to your post (the topic of the post) and at the top-right it shows a piece of paper and a pencil that says "Modify" so click that, and you should see at the top where you input the name of the topic. Change that to whatever you want :)
