Title: Derver down!
Post by: Rayblon on January 10, 2015, 11:45:49 PM
Post here if you suspect a derver down.

Before reporting a derver down:
1. Make sure your firewall and network security isn't blocking Mythruna.
2. Close your Mythruna client and restart it, then try rejoining.
3. Wait for at least 5 minutes and try rejoining again.
4. If all else fails, open task manager and manually stop Java, then try relogging.

If a server reset doesn't fix your connection issues, then it may be an issue on your end.

That happens to me every other time I start mythruna multiplayer. I get around it by just launching mythruna.

I just restarted the server.  You can see if that fixes it.

Huh, now it gives me the same error Rayblon is getting every time I tries to join.

I tried your solution before you posted it and... yeah. That's a thing.

Could be the internet.  Usually when the problem is on my end then a server reset fixes it.  I'll try resetting my router in a sec.

Title: Re: Derver down?
Post by: pspeed on January 10, 2015, 11:59:53 PM
Router reset and I just saw someone join... so if you still can't join then the problem isn't on my end now.

It probably doesn't help that we've been quite literally moving mountains. xD

Let's just say derver instead of server in the tech support server from now on. The word server never happened. :P

I can't connect to the derver again. lol.

After a bunch of crashes on logging in, i got the udp error again

If it's a problem on my end then it will have to wait until I'm back in town.

Enjoy your trip! Well, it's a business trip, right? That's probably not gonna happen then. :L

Hmm... What could be causing the server to be doing this so often now? It's as if our increased usage has begun breaking your internet or something. xD

I've restarted the software.  We'll see if it helps.

Null users don't block people.  It's someone who was logging in and somehow died... possibly leaving Mythruna running.  Though I suppose _that_ could be Moonkey with a zombie Mythruna still running.

Even more zombies now, and the lag got worse. Ever time I relog, I get sent back to spawn, too.

I reset it again.  If you guys are using spam-clickers then slow them down.  It's very strange to have the memory climb so high in such a short period of time.

It may have been from all the walking I had to do when I got ported back to spawn. The worst of the lag occurred when nobody was even building.

Yes, that is true.  The leak is known to be triggered by lots of rapid travel over large distances.  There was a period of time once where we had lots of people who would log in and just explore far and wide and I was having to reset the server every couple hours.

I can see why you are reworking the core networking now... xD

This either has nothing to do with the networking layer or is out of my hands.

The thing is, lately it seems like it's just a few users who have repeated problems connecting and somehow sour the whole connection... but it's not necessarily at the application level and might be at the OS level.  It could be that running Linux magicly fixes these problems.

The normal issue that I used to get was a memory consumption issue that also had nothing to do with networking and is some deep-seated memory leak.  I can only hope to not reimplement that leak in the new engine but I can't be sure until we're pounding on it.  At least one unfortunate thing there is that the new engine doesn't have all of the instrumentation I added to track it down... on the other hand, that instrumentation would have to be wildly different in the new engine and it also never bore fruit anyway.

Could be a connection problem somewhere then.  The "reset the server" related issue would be consistently bad, I guess.

I'm getting the no UDP messages error, which I think means it's down.
I got a new laptop that runs single-player quite fabulously and I'm anxious to take a look at my property at greater than 5 FPS.

Also, I forget: is the server login the same as our forum password? If not I've completely forgotten it.

Unlikely... and it hasn't been a problem so far.  Since I swapped my router out this server has been up for a looooong time.

Movement within the same large area likely caches most of the stuff and doesn't thrash anything.  Used to be it was the guys walking all over the server that would cause the leak-that-I-never-found to rear its head... but by "all over the server" I mean walking long distances in basically one direction.

I have been travelling. To be honest I accidentally went to the wrong coordinates to get to the statue so that caused a lot of extra walking. This time it crashed when the RAM was seemingly at 60% which seems a bit bazaar. Apologies for the trouble I've caused

Maybe it was 60% on your client... but it was 99% on the server when I restarted it.

So the question is... how were you determining memory?  By your display or by running the command?  Which command?

Ah ok, I thought in the bottom right corner where it says "Mem" displayed server side memory.

Edit: If it is a leak, does it eventually go back down to normal if I give it enough time?

Nah, once it's maxed it never goes down.  I don't know why traveling long distances quickly causes it... it's very hard to test.

Note: there is a command for getting server memory but I don't remember what it is off the top of my head.  Maybe ~mem

I know this is an old thread but Its something that is already here, so I guess a recycling is in order.

I think the server is down again. I keep trying to log into the online session and it times out on me.

I tried rebooting my computer, turning my internet off and on again. I just keep getting the mythruna window briefly freezing after I log in,
and then giving me an error message, telling me the online session has timed out.

Is the server down yet again or is mythruna just broken on my side?

Man, sorry about that.  I don't have time to check here so often anymore.

A power outage killed the server some time back I guess.  Sorry it took me so long to bring it up again.

Edit: P.S.: For these kinds of emergencies, hitting me up on twitter @MythrunaGame can often result in quicker responses.  While I also don't check that twitter feed so often, it does e-mail me about messages.
