Title: Statue Construction Phase 2: Building!
Post by: Rayblon on January 12, 2016, 03:36:39 PM
THE STATURE HAS BEEN COMPLETED! I'll post pictures of it after Paul sees it.

Now that I have aslaveassistant working on the scaffolding and making good progress, and having recently completed some much needed edits to the blueprint, I can begin constructing the statue I've been planning to build. Now, before you start running to the pit and trying to record every block I place... don't. Sometimes the journey is greater than the destination, but other times, like right now, it's not. I know I released some images here and there, but those have since been removed. You're free to spectate me building(except Paul), but try not to talk about it or walk around in the building area.

Now, I have one more request -- a request of Paul. As tempting as it may be to sneak a peek, please don't. You're kind of the reason why I'm insisting on an information blackout in the first place, and this statue is as much for me as it is for you. It has a number of secrets(nothing bad, of course) that I've kept under lock and key that will make the exposition that much greater if you heed my advice.

It's been about a year since I started this, and it's time to finish it.

Woops... the stage is about eight blocks too thin. Good thing I have the room to spare. Shouldn't affect anything, fortunately.

I haven't even logged into the server in probably 6+ months.  I think you don't have any worries about me taking a peak. :)

I've basically been living in this hole for the past few days. It's kind of sad, really.

The statue is progressing quite quickly today. :)

I /could/... but the tentacles would take years to build.

That, and my ego isn't big enough to build a monument in the shape of my face.

... in public, at least.

Today is the day I work on some extremely sensitive features of the statue. If i mess this up, well... it'll take quite a while to fix

Oh and Aeferian, if you ever doubted the usefulness of the scaffolding, now's the time to stop. This part is where I needed the scaffolds most.

Took a break for a couple days and wrote the first quarter of a story that left me super depressed.

Just one more thing to add, and then I need to clear the scaffolds.

I can help with that!  ;D

Only you would know the answer to the riddle so...

Yeah, most of the scaffolds can go now.

It is done. Allow Paul time to see it in person before taking any pictures.

I've heard it's quite nice... but alas, I know it naught but as a requiem of lost time now. I seek no fame, and no glory... because I have both already. I only seek to change, but this will change nothing I care for it to, I fear.

I suppose the scene is deserving of a  title.

This may take a great deal of consideration. This is a crucial piece of a larger work.

I was finally able to get to the site, and all I have to say is that the statue is amazing. I wish I could say more about it but I probably shouldn't. Honestly though it's worth checking out and mirin'.

So long as you don't say anything about the secret.

I'd like to say the secret is pretty obvious, but if you want to play it safe, you can talk freely about the work after Paul sees it.

As an aside, I think I decided on a name. It's safeguarded by a cipher right now, but will be openly visible when Paul confirms that he saw it.

It's an absolutely pathetic cipher that anyone would be able to recognize.

It's just there to make sure only the people that care enough to find it can see it.

Just... eight days? My work really does eat away at my sense of time, doesn't it? It feels like nearly a month since I made that post about fruit... and the statue feels like it was built a whole season ago.

... heh. We had a bit of an accident yesterday. I'm fine, but feeling the cartilage crunch when I try moving my leg is a little scary. Hopefully it heals quickly... not that I really have anywhere to go.

Oh dear. We haven't had a dip in activity like this in a long time.

For my own part, I also apologize.  I've been hoping to say something about what I'm working on but things keep getting in the way.  I've hinted here and there a little.

For example, I expected to have a 'hardcode coding' weekend but Friday afternoon my work machine's hard drive died.  I took this as an opportunity to buy+build my own new beefy workstation so that I can do day job work on one of my own machines for a change.  (The corporate build of this laptop makes it truly impossible for me to do my own tech support on recovering the hard drive so I'm stuck with a dead machine all weekend. :( )

Anyway, my cool time coding a general inventory panel for The Muddy Rogue turned into OS Install + dev environment setup.

It's a nice machine though... AMD 8 core thing with 32 GB of RAM, 2 3 TB hard drives, and a GTX 960 in it.  Retail therapy at its finest.

Hey, now. No need to apologize. There's only one thing on here that would warrant an apology from you, and that'd be you dropping Mythruna... which you'd never do. If anything, I'm more happy for you that you got the chance to treat yourself to a weekend of building a beast of a computer.

Of course, many of my satisfactions are vicarious.

Well, most board games and card games have been migrated to a digital platform in some way or another. Even when physical games become prohibitively unprofitable to produce, their legacies will live on in technology.

I did some research and Lords  of Waterdeep is already a mod in tabletop simulator (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=329284378). There's also a few standalone variants. Tabletop sim looks like a really good investment for people that like the authentic board game experience. Hell, with all the features it has, it's better than any physical board game.

It will definitely influence some of Mythruna's internal systems, I think.

My avatar wasn't made in mythruna. I've had this long before I first played Mythruna.

Whenever I build a statue, it's made of one material predominantly... So there's lots of grey most of the time. ;3

My dragon statue has a width of 150-170 meters and is over 130 meters tall. If the width is 150 blocks, you'd go well over the height limit.

A pinapple is a very unique shape.  quite difficult to figure out how to build it in mythruna.

wow.... ummm man that's huge.  Is there a schematic that doesn't include all the wiggly extra bits?
I just wanted to build a giant pineapple floating in the middle of the ocean.

Plus given the size of what I see there, which looks like it might break the sky limit, I don't think my minimal attention span when I play the game, would allow me to make all that stuff. I would get bored of building it like a 3rd of the way through.

Sorry.  Sadly, I don't even have the old Mythruna client installed at the moment... yet another hurdle to checking it out.

-snip-

... The Mars base probably doesn't stock candles, either. ._.

Special demonic artisan candles hand made from the remains of those taken...  ;)

That makes me wonder what they're made of.

Ear wax and bone dust for the body of the candle maybe?

But then what would the wick be? Skin?

Maybe made from a paste of human hair and fat?  (Presuming the hair was all short.)

That's actually much more logical than mine... heh. I think that would be superior as candlewax, but human fat only burns in the presence of more readily flammable materials like string or burning wood(Which human hair would kinda-sorta replace). My concern is that the strands may be too large to bring the fuel to the fire before it exhausts the wick, and may even lose their structure faster than a plant-based wick. Hm... perhaps the wicks are made of fibers from clothing? That is, of course, presuming that the uniforms on the mars base weren't made of fire retardant material.

Can Mythruna have creepy flesh candles? :D

On the topic of flesh candles, would they create the life-energy sink that corpses would create?

Presuming there was such a thing:
a) I think they would act as energy converters: life to heat
b) probably only work that way in very specific places.

This is a bit morbid, but... could human leather(or more generally, leather/skins of the civilized races) be a thing in Mythruna? I could see it being an interesting element of certain societies and conflicts (that and it also adds flaying to the mix for the deranged), and forcing acknowledgement of the dark side of fantasy beyond the archetypal bad guys and monsters.

I haven't even logged into the server in probably 6+ months.  I think you don't have any worries about me taking a peak. :)

As sad as it sounds, same here.  I've been trying to but my computer just doesn't run as well as it used to and crashes a lot on me. So I am trying to minimize doing multi tasking things on it to save it from crapping out on me so much.

So I can only occasionally go on the actual server now if I want to be here on the internet too or my computer will decide to glitch out or freeze on me and require a hard reboot.

I better hurry up and get back on so I can see this unveiled masterpiece.

THE STATURE HAS BEEN COMPLETED! I'll post pictures of it after Paul sees it.

Note: I went to look for this but I cannot find the coordinates anywhere.  I must be blind.

I suspect you will not be the only one.  Even I got lucky.  I will need to figure out how to deal with this.

When I read those threads over and over looking for the location, I saw indications that you may have PM'ed the location to some folks in which case it might be in your outbox on here.

Edit: it was nice to see confirmation that the external ports are still mapped... because I do see your login attempts in the log. :)

Weeks of destruction.

Weeks of construction.

I saw you in and hopped on... then you left. :)  I don't know if you saw my chat messages.

I can copy a password from one account to another without decrypting it... so I could make your regular account match the new one you created.

Since these passwords are just MD5 hashed, I could probably also recover it and PM it to you.  I updated the system to sha256 ad some point but that may have been in the unreleased engine.

After four years, he saw it. A statue of a man, built by an ant.
