Title: Mythruna localizations
Post by: caesar on October 20, 2011, 11:30:17 PM
Hey Paul,

do you have a localization file in mythruna or is everything hard coded?
As far as I can see we already could make 3 versions with the active community members:
English, French (trecool) and German (me).

Just give me a call if you need a German version ;)

It's not built in yet though it has been in the back of my mind the whole time.  Mostly localization will be relatively easy to add... there is at least one place that I've actually included a word in a bitmap image... and many of the other places (Like the "New" in the object builder) may be too cramped to accept different values.

I was planning on tackling localization post-alpha but I'm also trying to keep it in mind as I develop to make sure it's not a huge issue.

Caesar, that's a good ideas !!

Using players of the world for the Mythruna traduction. Very Good :)

But, it's not a priority I think.. Mythruna is at the stage of elaboration.. On alpha I think,  will be good :P

Anyway, I'm OK for this traduction of Mythruna in French. Contact me if you want help for that.

Yes it realy early to ask for localizations, but as Paul says it would be a load of work to enable this option on later stages. Thats why I mentioned it now.
I'm a bit capable of programming (sadly not in Java and sadly decades of learning behind Paul) and I feared he could make everything hardcoded.
Having a localization in mind you will not have that much work afterwards.

Thanks a lot for offering your help!

I'm a bit capable of programming too.. I have base of C++ and Java.. That's not my predilection domain..
But in Webmastering..I learn it in a french university, so.. It's more easy :)

I'm mindful of the issue but there would also be a lot of reworking involved if I were to integrate localization too soon.

For example, for the initial app screens I use a GUI library called nifty.  I'm not sure what localization support it provides but I will also be completely replacing these screens with my own soon (they will look the same but I'll have more control over making them look right at different resolutions, etc.).  So trying to localize them now would be undone with that change.

But I do think about it all the time.  Hopefully that saves me time later. :)

Hi.

I'd like to say that I'm completely fluent in Spanish since I've lived in Spain my whole life.
So I could help with the Spanish translation if you guys need any.

This is good... when I get to that point then I will likely have several people look at it just to make sure some language doesn't have a joker adding odd translations just for fun. :)
