Yeah, and it's hard when the "adventure update" seeks to hit a lot of the features on my roadmap (in a much lesser way, fortunately).

I've still got a few more tweaks to the Property System before I could release a minimal version without the management UI.  However, last night I was doing a final mock-up of the management UI screen and I may reassess how long that will take.  If it's only going to be another two days then I may just wait.  It will be easier to make tutorials on how to use it if all of the UI elements are there.

...and as it turns out, some of the property system features are the first steps to town/city generation.

Welcome back. Smiley

You mean the main site, right?
4894  General Category / General Discussion / Re: MythRuna website on: September 12, 2011, 06:07:20 PM
Thanks for the link.  When I go there it's a big screen shot with some big text paragraph in another language.  Is that what I'm supposed to see?  It looks a little like the company site I put together (which I won't be sharing publicly until I incorporate later this year).  I can provide a link through PM if you are curious.

The mythruna.com main page was created in five minutes or so to be a landing spot for people to find things.  So it's ugly and hopefully that bareness better reflects the fact that the game isn't even alpha yet. Smiley  The final site will probably combine some of the theme that I created for the forum with in-game artwork that doesn't exist yet.  And there is a good chance that I'll switch the unused Mythruna wordpress instance to be the site's main page after I gut and replace its theme to look more "mythruna-like".  You can see the current one by putting wordpress on the end of mythruna.com.

Eventually the web presence will have to expand a lot as I plan to create a sort of "app store" for people to post and download game mods, etc... and having some common themes that can be adapted to different kinds of sites will be good.  So far I sort of like what I've done with the forums and I'll probably continue to tweak those elements moving forward.

I moved the topic to the "tech support" section so that it's easier to find.

I'm really sorry that you can't run the game.  I guess there will always be some technological line below which the game won't run and right now you are on the wrong side of it.

If I ever figure something out then maybe things will improve for you but so far all of the things I can think of to fix this issue would make it run even slower on these old cards and it's probably already almost unplayably slow anyway even without the error.

That is too bad... that card is pretty minimal with respect to shader support.  I remember reading that the 5200 was the first nVidia card to support glsl shaders or something.

Still, are your drivers up to date?  Even if we get it to run it will probably be pretty slow... but it doesn't hurt to exhaust all options, I guess.
4898  General Category / Tech Support / Re: Please Help! -have a problem- on: September 10, 2011, 09:15:36 PM
First make sure that your drivers are up to date... sometimes graphics card manufacturers later enable things like this.

But beyond that, yeah, at this point the game will be unplayable without that particular feature.  Later in development I may find a way to create an uglier version that doesn't use any post-processing effects... but I'll have to figure out how to do a bunch of things differently (for example, under water wouldn't look like anything at all without post-processing... just like swimming through air).

Cards that don't support non-power-of-two textures at all have to be pretty old, I think.
4899  General Category / Tech Support / Re: Please Help! -have a problem- on: September 10, 2011, 08:34:51 PM
This tells me what's wrong:
non-power-of-2 framebuffer textures are not supported by the video hardware

Somewhere in there it would have also listed your hardware specs... which might have given clues if it's possible to upgrade drivers.

Mythruna relies on a lot of post-processing effects which pretty much require non-power-of-2 textures, unfortunately.  It's hard to work around that requirement.

Where you ran the .exe there should be a client.log and hopefully an error-####.log.  If you post those then I might be able to help.

Java programs can't reference bad memory so it has to be in the native code somewhere... and it could be display driver related.  The logs may show an error that preceded the crash.  Making sure you have up to date drivers may also help.

Total area.  So a "player stronghold" can be 1024 max area... which is 32x32 if you make it square.  There will be some minimum width of course and I may make that a ratio.  It makes no sense to make a town claim that is 6x1000 or whatever.  And even in the case where you want to make a stronghold only 6 wide, it seems odd to also make it nearly 150 long.
4902  Development / Features / Re: The Property System on: September 06, 2011, 02:37:01 PM
I'm trying to release something soon.  Still a bunch of stuff left to do and I haven't even tackled the property management UI. (the property tab)

Still, if I can get the basic mechanics reliably working of allowing a player to place their own "stronghold" boundary and move it around, then I may release that just to get it out there.  One property per player doesn't really require a UI to manage... and I can always still give myself town properties and stuff as an admin until I get the UI in place.

This is only taking me loner than originally planned because I decided to let the player adjust the shape of the property to be something other than square.  Players will also be able to move and rotate the map marker for how their property label appears on the map.

There may also be a few surprises in the works.

Some pics of placing property boundaries that I put up on facebook:

4904  General Category / Tech Support / Re: Issue with ATI linux and Java on: September 05, 2011, 03:05:18 PM
Yeah, it's clear ATI is trying.  5 or 6 years ago or more their OpenGL support was laughable.

That's why the JME guys always stress the importance of updating drivers, especially with ATI.  Gotta have the latest fixes. Smiley
4905  General Category / Tech Support / Re: Issue with ATI linux and Java on: September 05, 2011, 09:40:27 AM
Hopefully.  Their support of OpenGL has been a lot better the past few years... not quite up to nVidia levels maybe but certainly better than the "OpenG-what?" type of response from several years ago.

I wonder what the specific issue is.
