It also happens lots when you place a magic light in water and remove it.

Loading saves/quicksaves sounds hard, Loading all the preset establishments/world block rollbacks. And by hard I mean it would take awhile to just load them.

It shouldn't be. It's like saving another database folder as backup, with some extra stuff associated with AI, and loading it as you load a game now, just with a bit more info.

So what exactly happens when a player dies? Is it just teleport to nearest town, or do you lose some stuff, or is it simply the character died and you need to start with a new character?

When I look at the list, half the stuff are done, or are very simple to integrate. The problem is that the few left are the hardest. Take your time with it so it can be perfect. Great job so far.

Also, are you going to make your own music? That would be pretty interesting what you come up with.

Nice brand new computer. Intel cards are getting better. If you look at hd2000, that thing can't run and heavy graphics at all due to vista, hd3000 could run win7 and some programs decently. I guess hd4000 is gearing towards gaming since graphics is pretty much taken care of.

Hey Paul, ask which intel card they are using. I would think the best way to figure out (on win7) is to do windows benchmark (My Computer --> System Properties)
36  General Category / Tech Support / Re: How to run a server on: July 17, 2012, 08:28:37 PM
I understand the question but I don't have an answer.

He is asking how does one host a server that other computers will be able to connect to over the internet (or LAN?). My guess would be to find the IP adress and link a port to that, and on the other computer, specify IP address (in the same way one would use the website as server) and use the port you created.

However, this is complete speculation since I haven't even though of it yet  Wink Paul?

By watching kids at age 14 in oklahoma use a computer in school.

I don't know about Oklahoma City but Oklahoma is by far not the first place to look. Hope I'm not offensive, you turned out ok technologically.

Hopefully a laptop will come in soon, and then you can really play hard

Intel GPUs are getting better, but they are still not good for intense gaming. I doubt you will get above 10 on paul's server. You need video memory and intel gpu just don't have it. They are made for basics such as aero and such when having a gpu increases cost and size (both of which you may not want)

I like to analogize this to pixels (although they can be two completely different things)

A pixel is the little dot of color on a screen, the higher the resolution, the more pixels. (resolution is measured in pixels)

Think of this thing as a screen. A long time ago (10 years  Wink) screens were about 1024x768 max. TV's were so thinned out you can see the pixels. However, as graphics card got better, more pixels could be drawn. As technology got better, these higher pixel resolutions also had good framerates.

In this case, think of a 3-dimensional screen. In the video both old and new games use polygons. There is not much detail before because there were less "3d pixels" for the polygon to hook on too. Imagine playing on a 1024x768 (xp average) and an hd screen (1920x1080) more pixels means one can fit more polygons. It just has to have the memory to remember all those "3d pixels" and the technology to draw this larger number of "3d pixels" in faster framerates (for smoother gameplay).

Obviously the two aren't the same and they work differently but I see their evolution pretty similarly.

Mini-blocks are like higher-resolution blocks. One can technically make the blocks so small (super-resolution) to make even blocks look like a realistic elephant  Wink

Suggestion: NEVER buy business laptops for gaming. Unless it's a good one for 3D applications.

Or simply look at the specs and not just the price. Business laptops have added programs and case to help portability, but cpu is average, ram is sometimes low, and graphics card is nonexistent unless you get a specific, animation type business laptop.

btw, 1.7gh dual core isn't that good for gaming. I got a 2.2 gh quad and it is still pretty slow. Aim for the upper 2 for gaming.

I tried the seeds. Your seed 100 is cool (many more caves than I thought) and if you go to seed 99, you get a huge canyon at spawn perfect for castles overlooking the canyon. I found no reasonable flat area, except about a 10x30 size at most (with trees).

I like your wall (and guard door, amazing). You mine is neat, you should try to include torches with a branch off the wall, but that is my opinion (sets the mood, your mine is too bright but the rail is cool)

The way the timetable is set up, money would probably not work. Just like you said, money is saved up throughout the year to buy things, since a farmer could only be paid once a year and trading for things just once a year isn't practical. However, if people are able to trade once a week, that would be fast enough to allow impulse trading at times (such as your sword broke and you need a new one).

Money can be added for the aesthetics, but I think some people will be diverted. Their game would be to save up as much money as they can, in turn being able to buy anything they want, and in a game run by producing and trading, a rich man would have incredible power. (Imagine researching a city you found, then buying most of the imports the town relies on, you can easily cripple a town you hate, or reverse the process to strengthen a town you built.)

I think you want the production to be important, and through the production, trade will be a means of balance and communication. Money can offset the balance, and if money is involved you will have to set up a banking system to the extent of getting loans to buy resources to build, since the AI will probably focus on needing money as a median to getting what they need and so you will have to buy instead of trade for materials.

For a developer: You need all the PC's you can for testing. But then you have a hired team to do that for you, or the free community. Wink

Hahah... "hired team".  Yeah, one is age 9 and the other is age 6 and they work for candy. Smiley

You should be president, you got the right ideals.

Anyway, I think it depends on how tuned into technology your parents are that determines if they buy stuff. Obviously programmers will have a few. All of my siblings have had an ok (xp) laptop since the age of 12, and going off the college I got a $1000 laptop (discounted $800) because my parents think technology is vital for the future.

Between them however, they can open and browse the internet, and open a few games that have obvious desktop shortcuts  Wink
