If you place the thin wood directly on top of a dirt block and walk on it, it makes the walking sound for dirt.

If you place the thin wood directly on top of a dirt block and walk on it, it makes the walking sound for dirt.

It's the thin wood that is at the bottom of a block instead of the top.  It's low enough to the block below that the game gets confused about what you are walking on.  It's especially weird if you place those planks over water since when you walk on them you slosh like in water.

This will all get rewritten at some point.  Right around the time real physics is integrated, actually.
