I was prototyping the animations of selection and level transitions so I made a video:

Like I said, diggin' it.

Could the transitions be more smooth, like it slides to the thing you selected instead of instantly stopping to it? Or to say it in a much easier way, slows down to what you selected instead of instant stop?

There is only a quarter of a second for the whole slide transition.  a) you would likely not notice the difference, b) it would unrealistic since the sound effect will have an audible click as it locks into place.  This actually works well since mouse wheels also have specific hard stops.

Once it starts sliding to an orb it is technically already selected anyway.  Also, when you see the wheel spinning through a bunch of selections it's because I spun the mouse wheel very fast and through a bunch of selections.  Whatever the new destination, it always takes 1/4 of second even if it has to spin through 5 stops.

In the end, it's better to be responsive to player input anyway... but trust me it will look/feel right when complete.

Thanks.  I got the full thing working for multiple levels and stuff and I'm adapting it to the build wand.  Things are progressing nicely but I got "Tomb Raider" for father's day... so...  yeah.

Most of you probably already saw it on the social media sites but I forgot to post it here, too... whoops.

As a bonus, I haven't posted this one anywhere and now it's hidden tucked away in here:

...just some playing around I was doing tonight trying to replace my old fire effect.  Not quite where I want it but coming along.

Oh ok, that feels alot better than I thought. By sliding into place, that's what I meant by it. (It does slow down slightly when reaching its' destination). I'm very pleased with it. Looks tons better than I imagined.

Thanks!  It's still not exactly the way I want it yet but it's close enough for now.

For those following along down here in the weeds... some more secret content.

I made a video more targeted towards developers to get some feedback on the jmonkeyengine forums.  You can see the full thread there but here are the videos:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOpS5ifEyTo&feature=youtu.be
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivqGrs0IDsc&feature=youtu.be

The first one was a full demo of a variety of techniques and the second one is a follow up with some tweaking.

The full thread is here: http://hub.jmonkeyengine.org/forum/topic/shader-flames/

...and it has a download link to download the version I used to make the first link in this post.
