Hey everyone, I come here to say that I want to build a PC (but I don't think I will ever literally get to "build" it, we'll see) and I don't know how to make sure parts go together. The current problem is I won't be able to play Minecraft when it hits 1.7, since it is going to OpenGL 2.1, and my computer, as I just found out today, has OpenGL 1.4, respectively, I was expecting 1.6 at least for my desktop's OpenGL version. My laptop has a good OpenGL version (I think maybe 2.x or 3.x) but it is too slow to play Minecraft and Mythruna nicely, without any lagspikes encountered every 15 - 20 seconds.

As you can see, this is an old computer, and is practically nothing. I would like to ask for help on how to choose parts for a computer, and how to make sure they go together without seeing them first hand. I could try just upgrading parts of the computer, but it will most likely be worth more to upgrade than to really get a new and better computer, considering the time, effort, and money that would not seem to be worth it.

I know of a site called PcPartPicker, which enables you to build computers from scratch, and I have no idea how to piece parts together. If anyone like Sean can help me, I would be greatful

Note: I want a computer that will be able to be in a budget of 400-700 USD

Yes, you will be able to play Minecraft when it hits 1.7... My little brother and I tested the snapshot that uses Post-Processing for OpenGL 2.1 and he can run the game (He doesn't get lag-spikes anymore too!) He has OpenGL 1.2. He just can't play around with the Post-Processing stuff though.

And your computer is actually pretty decent. All you would really need to do is put in a non-intel graphics card and you'd be ready to go since your desktop is better in processing power than my little brother's laptop :p. Anyway, The only things I would suggest upgrading is the Processor and GPU if you want to. And if you have any left-over money maybe grab a bit more ram. (3.0 GB's is good though)

You see this? If you bought a new graphics card. JUST a new one (Without changing any other parts). You would be able to play this at 40+ fps at max settings (With SSAO off). Your computer is pretty strong, compared to people I know. It's just that darn intel.

heck i could show u my build i build it about 2 months ago and some of the parts are cheaper now the computer was like 600 buck with the os of windows 7

keep in mind i did get 22 dollars in discount buy looking for promotoin codes and bundling the harddrive with memory  and i would go for a more expense powersuplly this one i have is prown to start on fire but it was cheap and has 600 watts

Sorry this thread completely blew over my head. Granted I was pretty busy last weekend. What do you plan to do on the computer? If you are going to play any games, do you plan on playing any AAA next generation titles?

I want to be able to handle processing and graphics for Mythruna with great FPS, and when I get more experience in Java I could make the hardcore resourceful games.

I couldn't really go below $500 without removing a dedicated card in favor of an APU. So if you want to go less than $500, you could replace the Athlon 760K and the Geforce GTX 650 Ti with an A10-6800.
