In today's world, many experiences can be considered 'commercial', 'mass produced', and 'manufactured'. What do I mean by that? Well, think about a movie, first, just to get an idea. If you watch a movie, odds are, millions of other people watched the same exact movie. A cheeseburger from McDonald's always tastes the same, and that bag of Lays potato chips you're elbow deep into is in almost most of the homes in the US. With the advent of the 'pod' brewers, you can partake in the same 'artisan' café as your neighbors, and your neighbors' neighbors, and so on...

However, some people are moving against this trend, reviving more traditional practices in hopes of experiencing more personal pleasures. Manual coffee and tea brewing, homebrew soaps, and homemade bread are but a meager sampling of the luxuries people have begun, or continue to craft on their own.


Now that the context is out of the way, what are your thoughts on making your own products? Do you already do things like it? If not, is there anything you'd like to try doing?

I am split on this subject.
I make lots of my own things like soap, spices, eggs, bread, shampoo/conditioner, e-juice, beer, soda, cook most our meals, I garden and hunt sometimes. That is a lot of stuff the average person doesn't make/harvest themselves and it is a lot of work.
I could list all of the things I consume for days.
The fact that we share so many products and services like we do has made available high quality goods to a crazy amount of us. It is a strange system that should be respected. If it was old school or everyone one wanted smaller batches of stuff the quality would drop dramatically and availability would be scarce. Imagine if only a few dozen or hundred where the only ones to play a awesome video game.
With that said I do prefer artisan stuff like soap but I am thankful every one has it so everyone doesn't smell like armpits.
