There will be an actual user interface as described.  They won't have to remember odd cryptic commands.

Some players will end up managing multiple towns and many properties.  It's better to have an actual user interface for it.

There has to be a limit on the size or players will just claim the whole world.  The limit has to be big enough to build something cool but small enough that you are willing to go on quests to get more protected space.  And at that point, why wouldn't you want to just use the whole thing?

Yeah, so as I was falling asleep last night I came to the conclusion that I'm going to have to sideline physics for a bit and implement some anti-griefing measures.  First, some admin commands to help repair the world and deal with the aftermath and second the property system.  <sigh>

On the plus side, some of the work to give admins a set of special tools may pave the way for some of the physics tools I have to add later.

I ended up restoring that whole area (all 1024x1024 of it) back to August 8th.  I recopied the enterprise over.

The griefing extends well beyond that though since they destroyed my bridge and the pirate ship, etc... so more restoring to come.

Yeah, this is the worst kind because it wasn't just some bot.  Someone wilfully and maliciously randomly nuked sections and scattered random crap all over it.

I just don't understand why people take the time to do stuff like that.  And they had to walk quite a while in this case.

I'll restore it from backup this time, at least.
4940  General Category / Tech Support / Re: How do I get back to the spawn point? on: August 14, 2011, 01:18:29 PM
Hi, I created a new topic for your post so that others might also find it.

The spawn point is at 512x512.  I can't tell for sure but based on your last location, I think you can even see it on the map if you zoom all the way out.  Mouse wheel zooms the map.  'm' opens the map (just in case).

There will be some way to navigate around better in the future and probably some way to return to the spawn point or somewhere familiar.

Yikes... this is the first time that I've seen that.  It's kind of a funky effect, though.

If you open the chat bar with the enter key you can type a command /props

This will dump a file that among other things includes your video card settings.  I'd be interested to see it.

Also, the only other thing I can suggest is to make sure you have the latest video drivers for your card.

Right... only if you want them to help and you can revoke that at any time. Smiley

Then you will just have to deal with them pestering you about why you won't let them help. Smiley

I think I need to make them a captain's chair placeable and put it up in the bridge.

I don't know if the player plans to do anything else with it but there are lights all over the inside of it so I know they've explored it. Smiley  And the bridge has big windows where the view screen would be.

I just found this... you can't even really see the whole thing in view at once even at full clip:

I suspect that the neighbors won't be 100% happy with this in their back yards but I do have to thank the user for finally picking a spot that didn't obliterate anything.  And they even have a room for the bridge but it is unfurnished... I may have to rush a teleport command so that people can get inside without wrecking it.

While I hesitate to condone this sort of hacked client spamming... the results in this case touch one of my weak spots. Smiley

(709, -573 for the curious.)  I wonder if the user (whom I'll leave anonymous for the time being) plans to furnish it... or round off some of the rough edges. Smiley
4945  General Category / Tech Support / Re: can't connect to server (again) on: August 12, 2011, 05:39:36 AM
Not sure what to tell you.  The server has been up and people have been logging in for at at least the last 2.5 hours.  No one was on between 12:30 and and 6:15 my time, though... maybe there was a glitch in the matrix.

Lol
...
Wait so your not doing the same deal as notch? buy this version and get all version to 1.0?

It will be the same deal... but the selling hasn't started yet.
4947  General Category / General Discussion / Re: 200th post WHOAH on: August 11, 2011, 03:52:28 AM
I hereby grant you a free license to play the game until I hit alpha.  Grin

So you can be secure in the knowledge that your free is just a little freer than everyone else. Smiley

Nothing special for 200 just thought it was cool that we made it that far.  If I give away free licenses it will be for something slightly more significant.  Cool
4948  General Category / Tech Support / Re: Map Locations Naming on: August 11, 2011, 03:47:11 AM
He drew it on the land with water blocks.  The map shows dirt/sand/stone as ground and water as water.
4949  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Selection cube on: August 10, 2011, 09:10:19 PM
And note: the plan is that in the final version of the game, all HUD elements will have three modes: regular, minimum, and off.

I'm all about a minimal HUD with only the bare essentials.  Though I also know there are times when it's good to have other parts open, like maybe your inventory open while you are working on something or whatever... or a mini-map when you are doing something... where as other times you might only want a tiny health/magic bar.
4950  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Selection cube on: August 10, 2011, 09:08:08 PM
Well their should be a "Movie" mode where the camera movement is Smooth and simple like, with no GUI what so ever.

Yes, other than the movement part, you can get that now.  Hit F3 to get rid of the HUD and F11 to get rid of the debug stats.

...the only issue is the big yellow selection cube. Smiley

P.S.: You just made the 200th post. Smiley
