FAQ

Here are some frequently asked questions that have been consolidated in one place to make it easier to find the answers.

Q: Isn’t this game just like Minecraft?

I figured I’d get this question out of the way right off the bat.

My answer to this one is long enough that I went ahead and made it a separate page:
Isn’t this just like that other game?

Q: Are you the only one working on this game?

At the moment, yes. The times that I get to work on it are pretty strange and the core systems are not far enough along to easily accept help from others. Besides, I have no money to pay a team anyway.

Q: Are you accepting help?

Sometimes. Really, I’m limited in what I can do here. Some help is easier to manage on a volunteer basis than other help… and I do accept some volunteering where I can. I’m in no position to promise anything, though.

Mythruna supports some level of modding already and the official modding support will only grow. Most new non-system-level game features are implemented as mods and plug-ins. The best way ultimately to get involved is by developing mods. When I’m looking to someday (hopefully) recruit real help, it will be that community that I look to first. The best modders will probably know things about the engine that even I don’t know.

Q: How old are you? When did you start coding? etc.

I’m 40 years old. I’ve been developing software professionally for over 20 years. I got my first computer when I was 10 and wrote the stupidest games you’ve ever seen.

I have a day job that keeps me pretty busy most of the time. I still try to put in about 20 hours a week of work into Mythruna, though.

Q: Will the game always be free to play?

No, not really. There will always be some version of the game that is free to play but the final game will be “pay to play”.

Mythruna has a public server that lots of people have built really interesting things on. I will support a client for that server as long as I’m able so that there is always free access to those places. That world is so overbuilt at this point that there are some upcoming game features that I will not be able to turn on there. It’s these sorts of features that will end up in the “pay to play” version… which will essentially be a basic client with the right prebuilt plug-ins.

Q: How much will it cost? When will you start charging?

The current price point is subject to change but I’m targeting $15 U.S. I will start charging when the game reaches alpha… which as of today is still pretty far off.

Before I go “alpha”, I want to have all of the performance critical systems in place.

Q: What if I have a question that is not covered here?

Then please stop by the Mythruna forum and ask away.
