1  Development / Concepts / Re: Mythruna "Story" on: May 07, 2013, 12:32:40 PM
Mythruna could simply be an alternative universe that the occasional Earthling is teleported into by means of a ring, a wardrobe, a storybook, or a dream.  These people could be from whatever time period you could think of, from Ancient Mesopotamia to the Modern USA.  Humans would not be native inhabitants of Mythruna, but other species, including dwarves, elves, catpeople, etc., will be native.  Because so many different cultures intermingle in Mythruna, there will be vast varieties of architecture, transportation, and culture in general.  Time will not be consistent with Earth time in Mythruna.  Maybe even inversely proportional.  So in the distant future in Earth Time, Mythruna will be forming.  But at the time of the Earth's formation will be Mythruna's destruction.  Maybe Mythruna, as an alternate universe to that of ours, is almost like a mirror; everything backwards on the time spectrum.  But idk.

Oh yeah, and organisms live a lot longer there; our life expectancy on Earth is approximately 80 years.  But on Mythruna, because it is a more suitable environment for harboring life than Earth, maybe the perfect amount of Solar Radiation, our life expectancy would be 2000 years.

BOOM!
Going nerd on yo' ass!

...

And are you hypothesising that the only reason we don't live to be multi-millenial beings is an imperfect quantity of solar radiation..? As opposed to Neural decay and occasional errors in our genetic makeup?

Obvious troll is obvious. Tongue

Mythruna should be a fantasy world similar to that of Narnia or Middle Earth.
It's more of a D&D fantasy. A.k.a fantasy of everything. + steam punk-ish

Well, D'n'D IS inspired by Tolkien's works... But I agree, Mythruna's world DOES seem more inspired by D'n'D or Warhammer... Actually, on that point, Paul: did you mention somewhere that some Reptilians will be more civilized... Does that mean city building civilized.?

I hate MMO's. They mean a distinct lack of development on other games by the developer. Hence how WOW killed development on Starcraft and Diablo for 10 years... :/

Cool story, this is actually quite promising. My only qualms are based on realism really... In the second chapter, it says that one Knight had a "solid silver highland claymore." Now,
I get that it's silver because silver is a pure metal, kills undead, etc, etc... But I find the idea of someone making an entire claymore from silver abit far fetched. Those things hit hard, and silver isn't exactly the strongest material... It would make more sense for the claymore to be silver-chased, or blessed... But that's just my opinion, and that kinda thing also only seems to bother me. Quite promising though  Grin

We aren't actually that far off immortality... All it would take is another great mind and BAM! Though by great mind, I mean someone like Edison who actually does something, not someone like Stephen Hawking who makes up pointless theories. Put less money into the military, and more into research and we just might all live for a few hundred years Tongue

Favorite games? The Elder scrolls series (Morrowind was the best,) the Avernum series (bad graphics, but fun,) All the total War games, the ANNO series... AND MOUNT AND BLADE! haha

Haha burn me for a heretic, but I didn't like KOTOR that much... It was kinda fun, but not... special. Baldur's gate was a great game though.

"They'll tell you black is really white,
The moon is just the sun at night..."

I totally thought this was a thread on black sabbath when I saw it..

So... is there any chance that an invasion or race war could happen? Say a bunch of human towns spawned near a bunch of reptilians; if they end up competing for space, hunting grounds, would it be possible that they could end up warring? Haha the whispers... a suitably ominous name.  Cheesy "behold, in darkness, a doom sweeps the land." hehe

Iggyjeckel, did you mean how would the governments for races be organised? Like, with a shaman and hetman for reptilians, or a king or parliament for humans? 'Cause I'm curious about that too...

Hehe man, the races sound uber-insular. I think I might have to start a pro-human crusade. Purge the unclean etc. Tongue Actually, since there are no orcs, will the reptilians be the horde forming race, with mass war parties etc?

Possibly, but it also says something about how most surface cities will be human in origin. And if humans are indeed so motivated to explore, surely a human traveller will be unremarkable in most places they go?

A traveller shakes the snow off his dirty, hooded cloak as he shuffles into a nameless inn. He lowers himself wearily onto a seat, and leans his pock-marked bastard sword against the table; it's almost dull and slowly going to rust, but it makes a passable walking stick. He calls to the barmaid for a beer, then lays back and listens to the buzz of conversation as he dozes off.

That's what I wanna play haha. Screw being the Dragonborn.  Grin

One of the character diaries I've outline is about an Avian who was wounded to the point where he couldn't fly.  When this happens an Avian is kicked out of the tribe.  They have no tolerance for ground-bound brethren.

His story arc involves getting signed on to an airship crew.  His knowledge of aero-navigation and the ability to predict the weather earns him a nice spot on the crew.  Eventually he decides he wants to captain his own airship and crew it with only other excommunicated Avians that he's met.  Getting from "just what he's carrying" to "owning/operating an air ship" should be an interesting set of stories.

Haha yeah, but I'd still go human for the sake of unremarkability. One of my favorite things in a game is to blend in and observe; not being the world-saving hero, just playing as a wanderer, going from town to town. Games which allow you to do that are my absolute favorites. If a game can be fun even without all the bombast of "kill the dragon save the maiden!" then I think it's a hit. From the backstory of your character in this game, it might be really fun to play a kind of trans-dimensional G-man, or equalizer haha. Just thoughts though...
